Trip Report: A grand BA Tier Point Run. Day 2, Flight 6 – London Heathrow to Boston

JapesUK, September 29, 2024September 30, 2024

We arrived at gate A23 because clearly, BA knew I was in desperate need of some exercise. After a full 40-minute power walk, sprint, and perhaps a little prayer, I managed to make it to the plane. And that was only possible thanks to some shameless shortcutting and a bit of queue-jumping at security!

But I did it, and now I’m settling into the old style 14-seat First Class layout, right in the coveted seat 1A. Ah, sweet victory!

In no time at all the efficient crew had delivered a pre-departure glass of champagne, warm nuts, hot towel, amenity kit, pyjamas, and menu!

Once we were underway, the crew kicked things off with a round of canapés. I couldn’t resist deconstructing the middle one just to savor the incredibly strong pecorino on its own—absolutely delicious. As for the other two canapés, they were spot-on. A promising start!

For the meal, I decided to go all out:

Lobster paired with a crisp Chardonnay
Chicken Wellington paired with a Chablis
Chocolate Tart paired with 1942 Tequila—not my finest decision, if I’m honest
Cheese Plate paired with Port
Finally, Coffee with a splash of XO Brandy

The entire meal was leisurely, taking a good 3.5 hours from start to finish, which was just perfect for me. Everything was delicious, though I would’ve liked a bit more sauce with the Wellington—but that’s just me being picky. Overall, it was superb.

After dinner, I attempted to watch Furiosa, but the IFE had other plans—stuttering and freezing at every turn. Not that it mattered much, since my eyelids were doing the same. After about an hour of light snoozing, I woke up to realize we were already less than two hours from arrival. I wandered into the galley to grab a coffee and used that caffeine kick to start preparing for the day ahead, the countdown to snack time was on.

Snack of the day? A steak sandwich, and let me tell you, it was good. Very good, in fact! Paired with a hot coffee and a rather generous pour of JW Blue Label, it doesn’t get much better.

And then, out of nowhere, the “twenty minutes to landing” announcement came. We touched down right on the dot at 16:40 local time. Next comes the real test: navigating security with a new passport and a fresh ESTA. Fingers crossed!
